Somewhere somehow deep down, everyone has an artistic side...
Some of us tap into it more then others and some of us hide it because we are reluctant in letting others now what our secret passion is.
Are you a painter... a writer....an actor... a musician... a sculptor...a filmmaker....a painter? What is it deep down that makes you tick?
Some of us choose to share our artistic passion with the world and others choose to keep it to ourselves.
An interesting thing happened to me in New York...
I was on my way to the Museum and I needed to take the bus to get there. When I boarded the bus I asked the bus driver "Does this bus take me to the MET?"
He said, "No, you are going to have to wait for the next one... (then he named a different bus number that I can't remember.)
My friend and I turned around and exited the bus onto the sidewalk. The bus driver then called back to me "Hey! Get your friend over here...he has a professional camera...would he mind taking a picture of me?"
I said, Ummmm....I guess so...
Then he pulls out a book and poses with it. He says, "I'm a published author, this is my third children's book and thanks so much for taking a photo."
If you aren't following the story very well, let me give you a recap...There is a bus full of people waiting for the bus driver to drive somewhere.... He is wearing a transit uniform....he is holding a children's book...smiling...stopping traffic in the middle of Manhattan, so we can take a picture.
Something was really interesting about this situation. Until he mentioned his children book he had been going through his monotonous day driving a bus.
Click, flash!
Then he handed me his card and said "Please send it to me...thank you."
I sat there stunned, the bus doors closed and he drove away.
The photo of this bus driver holding his third children's book shows a look of pride and accomplishment. It didn't matter what the other 40 people on the bus thought of him...to them he was just a bus driver...but for him he was a creator....and to me he was more then what I thought him to be.
What I Learned
333. If I want to be an actor, I can't judge a book by its cover.
